6 Positives about Having ADHD

ADHD isn't all just negative struggles. That's why I'm writing this post to show all the positive things that often come with people with ADHD.

*Everyone is different. These are just my opinions from my perspective!*

Fun Fact: Did you know that Adam Levine, Channing Tatum, Justin Timberlake, and Whoopi Goldberg all have ADHD?

Endless Energy

Many people with ADHD have endless amounts of energy, which can make for a good workout, super fun girls night out, or great TikTok making (shameless plug @mvxhoang). It definitely is a plus when I'm dancing with my friends since I feel like I can go on for hours (oh boy do I miss dancing on elevated surfaces).

Creativity

Individuals with ADHD often think outside the box and have an indescribable imagination. Having more than one idea at a time floating in your brain has its ups, ay? (I know I'm not Canadian, I just wanted to try adding 'ay')

Sense of Humor

Not sure if it's because of the fact that we talk at the speed of light (3x10^8 m/s), have a short attention span which causes constant conversation switches, or the nontraditional comedic timing, but people with ADHD tend to be pretty funny (if I do say so myself). I often will start telling a story about the worst date ever and then ramble about why guinea pigs make my heart warm and fuzzy. It's hard to really show my personality and humor over text, which is why at this time (still in lockdown), I really miss being able to see my friends in person.

Perseverance

Most children and adults with ADHD work twice (I feel like sometimes even 10x) as hard as their neurotypical peers to achieve their goals and finish their tasks. This builds a deep determination to keep trying until we succeed. I may have to study for hours, but if that is what it takes to do well, then I will. Sometimes I fail miserably, but I always end up picking myself back up and trying again.

Sense of Observation

Just because you have ADHD doesn't mean that you always lack attention. My friends have found it impressive that I remember the little things like the color of someone's shirt or someone's horoscope. Even when my eyes are wandering and I'm jumping up and down, I'll actually remember little odd factoids. We pay attention to and find beauty in the little things that many overlook in their busy lives.

Multitasking

Why do I sometimes listen to 21 Savage or Shoreline Mafia while I'm doing homework? Many individuals with ADHD thrive and are more productive when doing more than one thing at once. I think that I sometimes listen to music with beats so I don't get bored while studying. For example, while writing this blog post, I'm listening to "Get Up" by Ciara and talking to my dad about stocks.
