Books You Should Read Right Now

If you're like me, you listen to the audiobook though.

Fidget to Focus: Outwit Your Boredom: Sensory Strategies for Living With ADD

Fidgeting to focus sounds counterintuitive, but it is what Dr. Rotz and Coach Sarah Wright recommend in their book Fidget to Focus. They advocate repetitive sensory-motor activities as a rudimentary strategy for improving attention & other cognitive abilities, with unique and fun ways to turn chaos to calm focus.

Outliers

This is not an ADHD related book, but I just finished it and it is EYE OPENING. Here is the free PDF & here is the audiobook on YouTube. I recommend everyone read this incredible book by Malcolm Gladwell. It takes us on an intellectual journey through the world of "outliers" - the best and the brightest, the most famous and the most successful. He asks the question:

what makes high-achievers different?

He gives real life examples and says we pay too much attention to what successful people are like, and too little attention to where they are from: that is, their culture, their family, their generation, and the idiosyncratic experiences of their upbringing. Along the way he explains the secrets of software billionaires, what it takes to be a great soccer player, why Asians are good at math, and what made the Beatles the greatest rock band.

The Mindfulness Prescription for Adult ADHD: An 8-Step Program for Strengthening Attention, Managing Emotions, and Achieving Your Goals

Physician-researcher Dr. Lidia Zylowska has created an 8-step program for using mindfulness practice to overcome the symptoms of ADHD. The program includes practices such as sitting meditation, body awareness, thoughtful speaking and listening, development of self-acceptance, mindful self-coaching, cultivation of a balanced view of thoughts and emotions, and more. Dr. Zylowska educates readers about ADHD, helping them to understand how their ADHD brain works and how they can use mindful awareness to work with their challenges. She also explains how the mindful approach can be combined with other treatments, including medications, to boost self-improvement.

Women with Attention Deficit Disorder: Embracing Disorganization at Home and in the Workplace

Solden, a therapist with ADD, combines the real-life histories and treatment experiences of women with ADD with the latest clinical research and literature to create a new screening checklist specifically for women. She highlights the special challenges women with ADD face, describes what to look for in treatment and counseling, and outlines three steps for living with ADD.
